Animal Husbandry Engineering


The career of Animal Husbandry Engineering is a scientific and technical discipline dedicated to the production of domestic animals. This career includes the interdisciplinary study of other areas (veterinary, agronomy and commerce) that allow the Animal Husbandry Engineer to have the ability to properly manage livestock production systems, in addition to giving added value to the products and being able to market them, always maintaining a profitable and sustainable management.

Mission

To train competent, enterprising and efficient professionals committed to the strengthening and development of the livestock sector of the country, through research and production in the area of zootechnics, always bearing in mind in their professional practice the ethical, intellectual and moral values for the benefit of society.

Vision

To be recognized in the short term as an academic offer of excellence, committed to the interests of the Honduran and Latin American community, based on an academic plan of learning and values structured by competencies, according to the reality of the livestock sector, reinforced with facilities, equipment and a teaching staff with a high level of knowledge that promotes scientific research.

The Zootechnical Engineer graduated from the National University of Agriculture is able to:

  • Perform and interpret soil and water analyses to produce food resources in quantity and quality in a sustainable manner under different agroecological conditions.
  • Exploit the potential of the genome of the animal genetic resource of domestic species to improve productivity in livestock production systems.
  • Carry out productive, reproductive and sanitary diagnoses and evaluations of livestock production units to identify actions to increase profitability in a comprehensive and sustainable manner.
  • Identify, evaluate and implement new technologies in the management of production systems in major and minor species.
  • Elaborate livestock sector development plans with a territorial planning approach that will enable the generation of public policies.
  • Promote and manage companies and organizations for the benefit of the actors of the value chain in the agricultural industry, considering the linear economy and circular recycling.
  • Manage legal, economic and financial concepts for application in investment decision making and management of financial resources.
  • Design the fundamental components of livestock systems for efficient production while ensuring animal welfare.
  • Promote the transformation of animal products, guaranteeing their traceability, safety and quality for the final consumer.
  • The objective of the Animal Husbandry Engineering program is to train a competent professional with integrity in values, capable of designing and managing livestock production systems and animal food processing, conducting scientific research to provide timely and effective solutions to the various problems of the country's livestock sector, considering animal welfare and environmental management through interdisciplinary work.

  • The student who aspires to enter the career of Animal Science Engineering, must have the interest to study the Zootechnical Sciences Curriculum, for this he/she must:

    • Submit a formal application for admission.
    • Original diploma and a certified or legalized photocopy of the original diploma certifying the studies completed in the diversified cycle of the intermediate level. When the degrees are obtained abroad, the incorporation agreement issued by the Secretary of Education must be presented.
    • Have a minimum average of 70% in high school.
    • Pass the Academic Aptitude Tests (PAA) established by the University.
    • Have passed the medical examination practiced at the University, including the anti-doping test.
    • Present proof of good conduct.
    • Fill out a socioeconomic and personal data form.
    • Pay the fees set forth in the University's Fee Schedule.
    • Sign a letter of commitment by which he/she voluntarily accepts to respect and comply with the current Institutional Statute, the General Regulations, Internal Coexistence Norms and these Academic Norms of this University.
    • Other requirements established by the authorities of the Institution.
