
Mission
We are an administrative governing body that plans, organizes and monitors the substantive work of UNAG.
Vision
That all administrative and academic processes are transparent and regulated in order to achieve optimal levels of efficiency, effectiveness, quality in the services offered and governance for a competitive UNAG.
The University Board of Directors (JDU) is the main administrative body of the University, in charge of the planning, organization, administrative control and follow-up of the substantive work of the University and its attributions are the following:
- To select the Rector, Vice Rectors, Secretary General, Deans and Directors of Regional or Specialized Centers by public merit-based competition, as well as their removal, when the case so warrants;
- To organize the academic, administrative and economic life of the National University of Agriculture;
- Formulate university development policies, in accordance with the laws and guidelines of the Higher Education Level for approval by the CSU;
- Propose the strategic plan for institutional development and strengthening for approval by the CSU;
- Propose reforms to the Statute of the National University of Agriculture and its regulations for approval by the CSU;
- Approve internal provisions and regulations governing the operation of the National University of Agriculture, without prejudice to the powers of the CSU;
- Declare the revocation and vacancy of the Rector, Vice Rectors, Directors of Centers, and Deans in accordance with the causes expressly indicated in these Bylaws and its regulations;
- Evaluate and approve annually, prior to its presentation to the CSU, the proposed budget, the institutional memory, calendar and academic management report, the accountability report of the executed budget, documents to be submitted by the Rector or Vice Rectors, as appropriate;
- Propose to the assembly the creation, merger, reorganization, and suppression of faculties, careers, academic departments, postgraduate units, research, liaison, specialized units, production and experimentation centers, institutes and other units provided for in these Bylaws;
- Approve the Educational Model and Academic Calendar of the National University of Agriculture;
- To declare the National University of Agriculture or any of its academic units in temporary recess, when circumstances so require;
- To agree on the creation of commissions for the fulfillment of its functions;
- To promote debate and pronounce itself on national problems in accordance with the aims and objectives set forth in these Bylaws;
- To publish the approved minutes and resolutions of the University Board of Directors; To approve the Arbitration Plan and amendments thereto for subsequent registration with the Directorate of Higher Education;
- To authorize the signing of agreements and letters of understanding with public or private, national and international institutions or organizations, based on the provisions set forth in these Bylaws and its regulations;
- Accept legacies, bequests or donations made to the National University of Agriculture;
- Confer "Honoris Causa" degrees and other recognitions and distinctions for persons who have distinguished themselves in Education, Science, Technology and Culture, in accordance with the respective regulations;
- To act as a court of appeal to hear and resolve appeals to declare that administrative proceedings have been exhausted;
- To administer and safeguard the assets and revenues of the National University of Agriculture.

Master Gustavo Alonso Ardón
The President of the University Board of Directors, JDU, Gustavo Alonso Ardón, is currently a PhD candidate in Economics and Business at Unitec, Honduras; Master in Business Administration with orientation in Finance, Catholic University of Honduras; Zootechnical Agricultural Engineer, Universidad Autónoma Chapingo, Mexico; Agronomist, Escuela Nacional de Agricultura, Honduras; Diploma in Poultry Health and Production, EICA, Egypt; Diploma in Pedagogical Training in Higher Education, UPNFM, Honduras.
His first work experience was linked to the field, as head of an agricultural extension agency of the Secretariat of Natural Resources, where he developed his skills related to leadership, organization and management of work groups.
His teaching and administrative career stands out for the fact that for more than 24 years he has been a research professor and Head of the Poultry Section of the ENA, now UNAG; over time he held important positions such as: Deputy Head and Head of the Department of Animal Production, and in 2007 he was elected Secretary General of the National University of Agriculture for the period 2007-2010.
In 2009 he was awarded as the graduation sponsor of the Apollo class at UNAG, and he also played a leading role in the creation of the Agricultural Business Administration program. He has been a member of the commission for the creation of the Animal Husbandry Engineering career currently in process and was Coordinator of the Supervised Professional Practice Committee in the Academic Department of Animal Production for the last two years.
M.Sc. Carlos Roberto Melgar Rivera
Agricultural Engineer by the National University of Agriculture (UNAG), Master in Ecosystem Restoration by the University of Alcalá de Henares, Diploma in Management and Conservation of Natural Resources by Ducks Unlimited de México, A.C (DUMAC) and the Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY) and Diploma in Political Advocacy for the Management of Micro-watersheds by the Association of Non-Governmental Organizations of Honduras (ASONOG).
Professional with extensive knowledge, experience as a research assistant in the Department of Projects and Rural Planning of the University School of Forestry Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, certified for the formulation of municipal development plans with a territorial planning approach, management of protected natural areas and private nature reserves and more than fifteen years of work experience in project coordination, consulting and providing paid and voluntary technical advice on agroecology, food security, integrated management of water resources, advocacy, risk management, strengthening of rural economy, municipal environmental management and ecosystem restoration.
Member of the Colegio de Profesionales en Ciencias Agrícolas de Honduras (COLPROCAH) and the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA).
Master Mariela Alemán Casco
Agronomist graduated from the National University of Agriculture (UNAG) and holds a Master's degree in Management and Evaluation of Development Projects from the Central American Institute of Public Administration (ICAP) in Costa Rica.
She has served as Head of Human Resources, as well as member of the Disciplinary Committee on behalf of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and of the Committee for the approval of topics for the supervised professional practice of the Agricultural Business Administration career at the National University of Agriculture. Thesis advisor to students of Agronomy Engineering, Food Technology and Agricultural Business Administration at the National University of Agriculture.
With knowledge in the elaboration of internal institutional regulations, in addition to working as a team with professors of his faculty in the elaboration of proposals for new careers at the National University of Agriculture.
He is also a professor at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, teaching Project Formulation, Agricultural Business Administration, Agricultural Economics, General Economics, Veterinary Management II. He has experience in project development at UNAG, with the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
Recent trainings: Diploma in Science Didactics, Teaching Training Challenge and Innovations before the Curricular Reform of the Agricultural Business Administration Career and the Agricultural Engineering Career of UNAG, Forum A progress towards the educational model of the National University of Agriculture in tune with the trends of the XXI century.
MSc. Rubén Augusto Sinclair Gutiérrez
Agricultural Engineer, graduated from the Centro Universitario Regional del Litoral Atlántico (CURLA); Master in Management of Development Projects with the Central American Institute of Public Administration (ICAP/UNAG). Costa Rica, 2009.
He has served as professor and Director of the University-Society Linkage System, as well as Director of Research at the National University of Agriculture. He has taught the following subjects: Pastures and Forages, Project Formulation and Evaluation, Strategic Management and Agricultural Extension. He also advises undergraduate theses to students of Agronomy Engineering, Veterinary Medicine and Agricultural Business Administration.
Prior to his work with UNAG, he coordinated and executed Development and Research Projects with International Cooperation on Environmental Protection in Biosphere Reserves in the country.
He has published technical-scientific papers in Journals of the Central American Cooperative Program for Crop and Animal Improvement (PCCMCA) and in the Journal of Tropical Soil Management, published by the Soil Science Department, North Carolina State University.
He has participated as a speaker of technical-scientific papers in national and international congresses and forums; also, he has professional merits such as: National Environmental Award and honorable mentions for the scientific contribution in works of Animal Science, Community Forestry and Agroforestry Systems.
Master Walter Alexander Salgado Bustamante
Agricultural Engineer graduated from the Centro Universitario Regional del Litoral Atlántico (CURLA) and with a Master's Degree in Total Quality Management from the Universidad Católica de Honduras "Nuestra Señora Reina de la Paz".
He has worked as a transfer technician in the production of basic grains seed in the Directorate of Agricultural Science and Technology DICTA, providing technical advice to producers of 4 companies of the Olancho Seed Business Network in the department of Olancho.
Agricultural Research Assistant, International Center for Tropical Agriculture -CIAT, for the benefit of basic grains producers in the department of Choluteca, in coordination with the project for the Promotion of Food Security and Economic Development (PROSADE).
Technical Advisor for the production of basic grains seeds and Business Manager, United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), provided advice on the creation and training of producers who currently produce certified seeds in the department of Olancho.
Advisor in protected areas and agroforestry systems, German Technical Cooperation - GIZ, PRORENA project, in the Sierra de Agalta National Park in coordination with the Mancomunidades de los Mártires de la Sierra de Agalta in 8 municipalities of Olancho, among governmental organizations, Universities, also served as advisor to 5 organizations formed in Community Areas, on the subject of farm management plan with orientation to food security, in the municipalities of Gualaco and Guata.
Supervisor of agricultural generation and technology, Directorate of Agricultural Science and Technology (DICTA) in the municipalities of North Olancho. Coordinator of the sustainable agriculture program, in the Coastal Marine Resources Management component with MOPAWI, in the Río Plátano Man and Biosphere Reserve, he also worked as a technician in the diagnostic survey in communities of the Capapán Micro-watershed, Patuca Catacamas National Reserve, Olancho.
